Jessica Oren, Director
Meet your Mentor and Teacher
Jessica Oren attended Texas State University in San Marcos with a concentration in Communications and Journalism and a minor in Photography. From there she shifted to the health industry after her firstborn came into the world and became a Certified Birth Doula, Hypno-Doula and Certified Family Herbalist. She has also acquired several hours of various health related classes throughout the years and loves to keep learning. Arbor Academy (formerly SAND Co-op) was founded in 2013 by Jessica Oren and Dusty Sanoon. She has three children of her own that she has been home educating for eight years. She has taught all ages and all types of learners for as long as the co-op has been founded. Her teaching philosophy is to teach children how to learn, to dig for the truth, to learn how to investigate, to learn healthy habits, and to become avid readers. She loves to see those light bulb moments when the connection is made during learning. Jessica has a passion for faith and prayer and creating a village like atmosphere when learning together. This year we are learning Marine Biology (prek – 8) and Biology (9-12th) for science.

“One more thing is of vital importance; children must have books, living books; the best are not too good for them; anything less than the best is not good enough; and if it is needful to exercise economy, let go everything that belongs to soft and luxurious living before letting go the duty of supplying the books, and the frequent changes of books, which are necessary for the constant stimulation of the child’s intellectual life.”
